WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., September 23, 2003 — Lipomics Technologies Inc., a privately owned company that specializes in lipid metabolite research, today announced the appointment of Rosemary L. Walzem, Ph.D., as the company’s first Visiting Scientist.
Dr. Walzem is Associate Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry at Texas A&M University. Her research involves studying the structure of lipoproteins and identifying mechanisms and regulatory processes that control the assembly of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in tissues. While working with Lipomics, Dr. Walzem intends to deepen her understanding of high-dimensional lipid data sets as a tool for assessing lipid metabolism.
“Lipomics measures up to 500 lipid metabolites in a single sample,” said Dr. Walzem. “Multiply this by the number of samples in a study and the comparative data available from multiple studies and the data sets become very large. These data sets contain extremely accurate biological information. Lipomics has a solid track record of making sense of all these data and building in-depth interpretations of lipid metabolism. I am very excited to be part of this team for a year.”
The Visiting Scientist program offers year-long assignments to distinguished scientists in the field of lipid biochemistry. Visiting Scientists contribute specific expertise to advance the Company’s research agenda.
